Facebook has acquired mobile social bookmarking company Spool, it was revealed today. In a post on the company's blog today, the Spool team informed its users that it was joining forces with the world's largest social network. Details on the "acqhire" have yet to be revealed.
Facebook apparently will not be bringing along the Spool name to any services the team will now be working on. Instead, only the company's staff will be joining Facebook. The Spool service will be shutting down, and the company sent an email to Spool users this afternoon informing them how to move their bookmarks to another service.
Earlier this year Spool raised $1 million in funding from SV Angel, Felicis Ventures, Charles River Ventures, Vivi Nevo and other funders. The company was founded in 2010 by a former Google product manager.
