Google Play now has 600,000 apps and over 20 billion app downloads

Google Play logoGoogle rocked the house at the Google I/O Keynote this morning and heated up the place by introducing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Then feeding the frenzy is the Nexus 7 tablet that finally silenced all the rumors we’ve been hearing about in the past. And of course, who can forget the Nexus Q, an entirely new device that harnesses the power of Android and Google Play. In addition to all of these, Google also announced that it now has over 600,000 apps on Google Play, nearly close to Apple’s App Store that houses more than 600,000 apps – probably over 650,000. However, Google did not mention how many apps are customized for tablets. Google was also thrilled to announce that Google Play now has over 20 billion downloads, trailing Apple Store’s 30 billion downloads. Google also added that it has so far sold more than 400 million Android handsets this year – a big leap from last year’s 100 million.
