Google Maps 6.5 for Android released

Google logoTo celebrate its recent milestone of helping users navigate over 50 billion kilometers with turn-by-turn directions, Google has decided to upgrade its Maps app for Android devices with a fresh new look. Taking cues from the Android Ice Cream Sandwich style guide, Google Maps 6.5 for Android features a brand new user interface that lets users swipe left and right to browse their recent and favorite locations in the app.

Maps have also been updated with higher resolution tiles to take advantage of higher density displays, to provide a crisper, less cluttered map that is easier to read. Colors are improved, labels are less obstructing, and maps work better now at zoomed-in levels. Google Maps 6.5 for Android also now lets users prioritize their favorite transit and route options to make obtaining directions an even quicker process.
