Crysis 2 goes 3D

Crysis 2 logoElectronic Arts (EA) and Crytek have showcased their latest Crysis 2 demo at E3 2010 in Los Angeles. The long-awaited game will be available in true stereoscopic 3D for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

"As the 3D revolution sweeps movies and television, we are excited to bring Crysis 2 to 3D, making it the first big action game to be available in true stereoscopic 3D," explained Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli.

"With all of the same story and action seen in the 2D version of the game, the 3D version adds another dimension of intensity and immersion to the action."

Wow, Crysis 2 in 3D?! Has the standard already become mainstream for video games?

Well, not quite yet, says EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich, who told TG Daily that 3D supported video games won't be a "significant driver" of industry revenue until 2013.

"With the slow adoption rate for 3D televisions, EEDAR does not expect 3D gaming to be a significant driver of revenue and health for the industry over the short-term," said Divnich.

"However, as consumers naturally replace their televisions and adopt 3D television, 3D gaming will play an ever increasing role in driving revenue for the sector."
