GTA 6 in development

GTA 6Video game developer Rockstar and publisher Take Two are already in the early stage of development for a new Grand Theft Auto title, but the company will likely keep it under wraps for the time being and will only make an official announcement when they have a solid vertical slice to show to the public.

The information comes from a source close to the company that's quoted by Techradar and says that the studio has not yet chosen the real-world location that it plans to base its game universe on, which is another sign that the game creation process is just starting.

The same person claims that, at one point, Rockstar was trying to create a Grand Theft Auto title focused on Tokyo and even went to the Japanese city to get more details about the elements that they could feature in their video game.

The source says that the road system was considered to be too complicated for a gamer to easily navigate, and the company decided to explore other ideas.

There were trademarks from Take Two way back in 2013 for GTA titles linked to Bogota, Tokyo and Sin City, neither one of which has been used for a video game or an associated product since then.

Maybe improved tech and the extra complexity that modern hardware allows for could make the Japanese city a strong candidate for the next installment in the long-running open-world series.

Rockstar has managed to capture some core elements of modern American society with its video games while also using an ironic tone when it comes to storytelling and world building.

Take Two has said that it does not want to over-exploit its most important franchises and that every new GTA launch should be a major event for the company and the game world.

At the moment, Rockstar is adding more events and content for the Online mode of GTA V, with a currently running weekly promotion adding RP for races and dropping prices on cars and other items.

Rumors continue to talk about a single-player content pack for the game that should be both revealed and launched this year, with a new character and more locations.

Other sources are saying that Rockstar and Take Two are getting ready to announce a new installment in the Red Dead series, which might be called Legends of the West.
