Offline Online gets Skype Voice and Video integration

Skype logoMicrosoft today detailed the October feature update for Office, it provided some insight on the new features that are being rolled out to Office Online users. One major feature included in this update is Skype integration, both video and voice, which significantly improves collaboration between team members using the online Office applications to co-work no matter where they might be in the world..

Just last month Microsoft added Skype in-app integration with Office 2016 and at that time it pointed out that it was just the first step, with today’s update the company has taken Skype integration to a whole new level.

Skype integration is now live in Office Online, this includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote Online, as well as in Outlook.com. The integration will allow users to see and speak to their Skype contacts via these Office Online apps.

Microsoft says that this creates a more natural and collaborative experience if multiple people are working on a project because it allows them to co-author and have a conversation at the same time from within that document. Since the instant messaging history is connected to the document the next time the document is opened the participants can pick up the conversation right where it was left off.
