Huawei Ascend Mate 2 to skip KitKat to go directly to Android 5.0

Huawei logoYou might recall that there recently had been a question about whether the version of the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 available in the U.S., would be updated to KitKat. At first, it seemed as though the update would not be coming to the phablet, but Huawei later said that it would reconsider the decision. However, it now seems like a moot point in light of some new information revealed by the manufacturer.

On Friday, Huawei said that the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 will skip over KitKat and go straight to Android 5.0 Lollipop. This will take place in the first half of next year. Currently, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 is powered by Android 4.3.

The bottom line is that Huawei Ascend Mate 2 owners in the U.S. will have to stick with Android 4.3 a little bit longer than they would have wanted to, but the device will eventually be powered by the latest and greatest build of the Android OS.
