Samsung relaunches Android app store, second try called 'Galaxy Apps'

Samsung logoSamsung is rebranding its mostly quiescent app store. The Korean manufacturing giant has announced "Galaxy Apps," a new version of its app store for Android devices. The refreshed offering will be available to all users of Samsung smart devices, and will be divided into three major divisions -- best picks, top, and "For Galaxy."

Best Picks and Top are self-explanatory, with sorting and search mechanisms to assist users in finding apps. The "For Galaxy" section will include business centric applications designed specifically for Galaxy-branded devices, and those using Samsung's software development tools and programs.

"At Samsung, we continuously strive to create value for our customers by providing differentiated solutions and services coupled with innovative devices", Samsung Media Solution Center president Won Pyo Hong said at the release of the new app store. "Samsung Galaxy Apps is an extension of that promise, as it offers our customers exclusive apps to enrich their experience."

The Galaxy Apps store is doing a gradual rollout to Samsung Galaxy customers "in select markets" over the next few days. Samsung claims hundreds of exclusive apps to Galaxy-branded devices, and there will be a mechanism for frequent buyers to get promotions and discounts on apps in the store.
