Before Microsoft could release Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview, there were lots of rumors and information coming from so-called “insiders” that confirmed the new version of the operating system will also include a file manager, among other goodies.
Unfortunately, Microsoft did not shared any details on the file manager back in early April during its BUILD 2014 conference, so we assumed it will not be included in Windows Phone 8.1.
This is not the only feature that was expected to be added in Windows Phone 8.1 and did not make it into the Developer Preview that was released two weeks ago.
However, there's a high chance that these features will be included in the final version of the mobile platform when it gets released later in the summer.
Well, at least one of the missing feature will certainly be part of Windows Phone 8.1, and that's the long rumored file manager.
The information has just been confirmed by Microsoft Joe Belfiore during his AMA session on Reddit. Apparently he's already running the new file manager on a couple of his smartphones for the last week and he was kind enough to share some screenshots of the file manager as well.
Apart from confirming Windows Phone 8.1 will eventually receive the long-awaited file manager, Belfiore also said those who installed the Developer Preview are likely to get it by the end of May, but that only if nothing bad happens.
“*** YES *** We are doing a File Manager for WP8.1! I know a LOT of you are looking for this (thanks for the tweets, I've read them all). In fact, I've been running a build of it on two of my phones for the last week or so and it's getting to pretty good shape.
We are expecting to get it into the store HOPEFULLY by the end of May.”
