Windows 9 Threshold RTM may not arrive this year as rumored before

Windows 9 logoThere are all sorts of Windows 9 rumors circulating all over the internet. Rumors suggest the Redmond giant will shed some light on the details about Windows 9 Threshold, as well as the release of the Windows 8.1 Update 1, in April at the annual BUILD conference. In case you don't recall, a rumor suggested Microsoft will release the RTM version of Windows 9 in October, according to a known Windows leaker, Wzor, who has shared a handful of screenshots of the upcoming Windows 8.1 Update 1 during the past few weeks.

Well, it seems it may be inaccurate as the well-connected Mary Jo Foley says she heard from her sources that Windows 9 Threshold RTM will not launch in October 2014. According to Mary Jo Foley, "By the way, for what it's worth, I'm hearing from my sources that WZor's claims this week that Threshold will be released to manufacturing in October 2014 are inaccurate. Maybe he's hearing about something like another Windows 8.1 Update."

Rumors peg the official release date of Windows 9 Threshold to be in April 2015, and releasing it to RTM requires Microsoft to work very quickly to make sure its ready to release to manufacturing in October. Microsoft is expected to introduce a bunch of new features including floating modern apps as well as some sort of "mini" Start Menu, but it seems they'll not be a part of the Windows 8.1 Update 1, according to Foley. It could, however, make an appearance next year with Windows 9.

Well, let's see what the future holds for us -- Windows users. Microsoft's BUILD conference is scheduled for April, and we're hoping Microsoft will clarify a few things about Windows 9 during that time.
