It was ten years ago that the first Pirate Bay upload was being made; the first step in a journey to become the world’s favorite torrent site.
As TorrentFreak reports, the uploaded torrent linked to ebook “Top Secret Recipes.”
In the beginning, The Pirate Bay was only available in the Swedish language and within the first few months only ended up hosting a few hundred torrent files.
In the meantime, the site has grown exponentially and has become the most visited torrent site in the world, earning its place by a landslide.
It hasn’t been an easy journey, as the site was hunted by countless governments. Last year alone, it changed domains several times over, jumping from country to country as it got chased away by rights advocates, the music industry or Hollywood.
The Pirate Bay is currently back in Sweden, where the domain registrar said that it will not suspend the site again unless there is a court order.
The Pirate Bay is, on top of this, one of the most blocked sites in the world, as numerous governments have decided to prohibit citizens from accessing it. Of course, imposing an ISP ban for The Pirate Bay hasn’t really worked since users quickly found ways of accessing the site, including by using VPNs or proxies.
