Twitter tests counter tool for tweets

Twitter logoTwitter is apparently engaging into yet another cool experiment – enabling users to see how many people have seen their tweets.

The new feature seems to be a simple experiment, since it’s not exactly wide-spread. However, this is the first time when Twitter is trying to make its statistics visible for anyone to see.

Such data has so far been kept hidden from user eyes and reserved for advertisers which could find out exactly how many impressions their campaigns were receiving.

Twitter is continuously working on new things to improve its service with, adding more and more feature. Such tests aren’t exactly uncommon and they usually only affect a small percentage of users. In fact, teams working on these projects don’t even need to get permission from higher-ups before enabling such a test. Latter stages of the approval process involve more execs and more Twitter users.

The Verge suggests that knowing how many views a tweet got may have mixed effects. On one hand, it could give users the knowledge they need to figure out what their followers are interested in. On the other hand, however, people could get discouraged and stop tweeting things that could receive fewer views, therefore leading to a decrease in Twitter activity, something that the company is certainly not looking for.
