HP to release $89 tablet with Intel chip next week

HP logoWalmart will sell on Black Friday an $89 Hewlett-Packard Android tablet, with Intel inside.

The HP Mesquite 7" Android tablet will be powered by Intel's Medfield Atom processor, according to Intel. Unfortunately, further product details were not available.

Typically, tablets that sell at under $100 come with ARM processors.

Medfield is not Intel's latest Atom processor for tablets. The company is also offering Bay Trail Atom chips, which power larger, Windows 8 tablets available for about $250.

Intel earlier this week said Bay Trail tablets with 64-bit Android would ship next year. The company is also readying a 64-bit Bay Trail Atom platform for Android, with the first tablets to come in the first quarter of 2014.
