First Samsung Tizen device is NX300M, smartphones delayed to 2014

Samsung logoThe first device from Samsung running the Tizen operating system may be a camera that has already shipped, rather than a smartphone. The NX300M, revealed one month ago, is being touted as the first using the operating system, with the company also advising that the first Tizen-based smartphone release will not take place this year.

The mirrorless NX300M is said to run on the "Tizen Camera Platform", reports Unwired View, with the software claimed to allow it to boot twice as fast as Linux-based equivalent camera software, as well as allowing it to capture 20-megapixel images at 9 frames per second.

Smartphones will be coming out running on Tizen, though the original 2013 release target will be missed, with the first now slated to come out in early 2014. Though Samsung revealed it is working on version 3.0 of Tizen, which will introduce multiple user accounts, a new 3D rendering engine, and a 64bit architecture for Intel and ARM-based chips, the first smartphones will instead run on version 2.2.1. Samsung is also looking to add Tizen to smart televisions in 2014.
