Following several announcements last week, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang is already hinting at the next-generation Shield console. In an interview with Engadget, the executive noted that consumers should expect a new Shield device whenever the company introduces an updated version of its Tegra chip.
The company earlier this year introduced the next-generation Tegra hardware, currently referred to as Project Logan. Huang reiterates that it is the first mobile chip to be built upon the same graphics architecture used in PCs, such as the Titan graphics cards.
"To us, the reason why Android is such an important platform is, we want to do for Android what GeForce did for PCs," said Huang. "By creating Shield, we're galvanizing, we're focusing all of the game developers around the world, on a device that allows them to create a great gaming experience on a platform that today is prolific but isn't a particularly good gaming platform."
The current Shield arrived on the market late in June with a $299 price tag, though the company has yet to announce if the successor will arrive around the same time in 2014.
