Apple has hired a former senior researcher at LG Display, Dr. Jueng-jil Lee, reports say. Lee was reportedly involved in LG's efforts at working on a printed AMOLED TV. Before joining that employer, he is said to have been responsible for development at Cambridge Display Technology (now part of Sumitomo), a company specializing in polymer-based OLED material.
Lee's hire may suggest that Apple is working towards using OLED in one or more of its products. The problem with OLED adoption so far has been cost; the technology has been growing in popularity though, and could be less expensive in the sort of bulk quantities Apple demands. That would be especially important if OLED comes to a rumored Apple TV set, since most OLED TVs are out of the price range of the average shopper.
