AMD's Socket FM1 CPUs will be gone by year's end

AMD logoWhether it is true or not, it is reported that Advanced Micro Devices has decided to end the existence of socket FM1 Llano accelerated processing units as soon as possible.

We heard rumors of this before, so we are inclined to believe what Fudzilla is saying, though we haven't totally given up on our reservations.

AMD's FM2 Trinity desktop APUs may be better than Llano in every way, but they have only been around since October. Three months is a short time for an existing product line to completely disappear.

Granted, online stores will still offer Llano chips as long as supplies last, but AMD's discontinuation of them comes a bit abruptly.

Then again, only 0.6 million sold in the third quarter, a clear fall from the second quarter's 3.3 million, which itself wasn't that high a sum. In other words, no one is likely to weep for the passing of Llano any time soon.
