Rumors of HTC device with 1080p, 5-inch display surface

HTC logoHTC is rumored to be prepping a device with a 5-inch, 1080p display. According to Digitimes, the upcoming device will sport a resolution of 1794x1080 pixels and is currently slated for a launch between September and October. With the Samsung Galaxy Note coming in at a larger 5.3-inches, the HTC device will straddle the line between being an oversize smartphone and a 'phablet' cross-over.

While LG has dipped its toes in the segment with its 5-inch Optimus Vu, Samsung is rumored to follow up the Galaxy Note 5.3 with a larger 5.5-inch display. However, it is not expected to feature a resolution any higher than 720p. While the Galaxy Note 2 is likely to incorporate Samsung's quad-core Exynos 4112, no details have yet emerged about the processor that will power the rumored HTC device.

Currently, HTC is using two chip suppliers having adopted NVIDIA's Tegra 3 for its quad-core devices, while using Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 for its high-end dual-core devices. It's upcoming HTC One X+ is expected to incorporate a faster 1.7GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor, which could also make its way into the 5-inch device. Alternatively, Qualcomm's next-generation quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor could also find a home in it.
