When Microsoft announced the Surface tablet in June, it said that it would be available at the same time as Windows 8. Earlier this month, the company formally announced that Windows 8 will go on general availability on October 26, and its latest SEC filing confirms that Surface will indeed start selling on this date, a fact first noticed by CNet.
Only the ARM-powered device, running Windows RT, is likely to be on sale in October. Microsoft has said that the x86 device, running Windows 8 Pro, will come around three months later.
Pricing for the sleek tablets has still not been disclosed. Microsoft has announced that when the device goes on sale, it will be sold through the company's handful of bricks-and-mortar stores and its online store. Availability outside the US has been hinted at, but not yet confirmed.
