Dell launches precision M4700 Mobile Workstation

Dell logoHaving decided that enough time had passed without some update to its business product line, Dell has launched the precision M4700 mobile workstation.

The Dell Precision M4700 can be found on the official website, through this page, along with another newcomer, Precision M6700 (17.3 inches).

We will handle the latter separately, in its own article, since Dell was kind enough to provide all the relevant info on both.

The Precision M4700 measures 15.6 inches in screen diagonal but doesn't have a single display option. Its LCD can have a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels or 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Moreover, the 1,920 x 1,080 option can be an TN or IPS version.

Meanwhile, the hardware within the machine is centered around the QM77 chipset and an Intel Core i5 or Core i7 central processing unit from the third generation.

The strongest possible is the 22nm-based Core i7-3920XM, a quad-core processor with 2.9 GHz / 3.8 GHz clock speed, 55W TDP, HD 4000 graphics and 8MB cache.

Speaking of graphics, Dell chose to add an NVIDIA Quadro K1000M/2000M discrete card with 2 GB DDR3 VRAM, or an AMD FirePro M4000 mobility Pro 1GB GDDR5.

As for storage, up to three HDDs (72,00 RPM) and/or SSDs (128 to 512 GB) can be had, in RAID 0/1/5.

Other specs include a DVD writer, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi (up to 450 Mb, single- or dual-band), Gigabit Ethernet, Stereo Speakers, dual integrated noise-cancelling microphones, a multi-card reader, a smart card reader, USB 2/0/3.0 ports, various other I/O and, of course, multiple video outputs (VGA, HDMI).

Dell will want $1,649 (or more) in exchange for the Precision M4700 when it finally becomes available through this page. The IPS panel, the CPU and the solid-state drives will add the most to that tag, but optional features like an HD webcam won't be exactly negligible either.
