Sony and Panasonic to reveal joint effort for OLED televisions next week

Sony and Panasonic to reveal joint effort for OLED televisionsSony and Panasonic, two pioneering Japanese consumer electronics giants, will be announcing a partnership next week that aims to develop ways in mass producing next generation organic light emitting diode or OLED televisions. Sources allegedly told the publication that the two then-rival companies are currently in talks to build screens at affordable prices, with the end goal of surpassing two of the industry’s fierce competitors from South Korea – Samsung and LG.

It has long been reported that Samsung and LG have made it difficult for Japanese firms, like Sony and Panasonic, to dominate the TV industry once again. But in this case, the it-takes-two-to-tango statement seems relevant. Let’s just hope, assuming that Reuters is correct, that the said Sony-Panasonic partnership will work to their advantage.

“While Sony is developing technology to fabricate screens using sprays, Panasonic is using inkjet printer technology to make prototype OLED screens, and has invested 30 billion yen ($374 million) to set up a test production line at a plant in Japan,” Reuters said while quoting the Nikkei Business Daily. Well, let’s see what happens next week. Stay tuned as we keep you updated.
