Google To Announce 7-inch Nexus tablet PC This Month

Google logoThis month is expected to see another tablet release, the Google Nexus tablet, manufactured by Quanta Computer, say Asia-based reports.

In the wake of today's Microsoft Surface announcements, Google is said to be ready to release the 7-inch Nexus tablet at Google I/O, which starts on June 27.

Jointly developed with Asus, the tablet's initial price will be US$199, according to Digitimes.com's sources in Taiwan-based component makers. Due to its low price, the 7-inch Nexus tablet PC will not feature 3G/4G support or a back-side webcam, but only Wi-Fi and a front-side camera, the report added.

The new tablet is expected to run on Google's Android OS and also integrate the recently announced Google Play, the company's digital marketplace for mobile applications, music, movies and books. It will also come preloaded with Google's Chrome browser.

The device would mark Google's entrance into the tablet PC market, which has been dominated by Apple's iPad high-end devices, with Amazon's low-priced Kindle Fire to gain popularity mainly due to its attactive price. Microsoft's Surface tablets have been also added to the competitive devices.
