AMD reveals Radeon 4830 at $150 price point

Logo AMDAMD on Wednesday unveiled the ATI Radeon HD 4830 graphics card, offering users a lower-cost DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL platform, combined with several of ATI's high-definition video and audio technologies. AMD asserts that the card offers many upscale features at usable frame rates, such as full screen anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering; it cuts down on performance from the Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 by reducing the number of stream processors from 800 to 640 but without compromising on the 256-bit memory bus or other features.

The 4830 offers both high-definition video playback, and lower-resolution video upsampling to enhance clarity. AMD also includes its Unified Video Decoder 2.0 technology for enhanced image quality, using ATI Avivo HD. The Radeon HD 4830 also functions with CrossFireX, allowing users to join up to four cards together for greater 3D performance.

AMD's ATI Radeon HD 4830 offers picture-in-picture, 7.1 surround sound pass-through over HDMI, and several other high-definition media features, and should be priced at approximately $150 as a retail card; ASUS, Sapphire and other makers will offer it to Windows users. Large-scale PC builders can also offer the card in their own systems.
