Samsung Wrapping Up Talks with Google for Google TV Venture

Samsung logoJust over a week ago, it was announced that Logitech was calling it quits with Google TV after selling only 15,000 Revue settop boxes. The company had issues with Google TV's lack of third-party apps, and the fact that TV programming providers ensured that Google TV couldn't gain access to their web uploads.

But Samsung is now in last-stage talks with Google, and plans to obtain a Google TV service that would differ from competitors. Google TV allows users to access online websites, apps, games and videos on their TVs.

According to Yoon Boo-keun, president of Samsung's TV division, Samsung will show off its Google TV at an unknown 2012 event. The company will also present TVs with next-generation OLED displays at January's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Boo-keun said he expected the flat-panel TV market to grow by 10 percent next year, and that Samsung was looking to "outperform" the market during that time.

Samsung unveiled a Google TV-supported Blu-ray player and companion box at CES 2011 earlier this year, but never commercialized it.

Google TV can currently be found in certain Sony TV models and on Logitech settop boxes. It is expected to hit Europe next year.
