Reycom, a Swiss-based tech company has used CES 2011 to debut its upcoming Windows Media Center ‘REC 7’ set-top-box that can be controlled by Windows Phone 7 mobile phones. The new Windows Media Center STB is running Windows Embedded Standard, a less system resource hungry version of Windows 7. The Reycom STB also incorporates a TV tuner, Internet connectivity and a built-in Blu-ray player, the functions of which can be remote controlled by a WP7 phone.
The REC 7 will also function as a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) and stream media to other devices on a user’s home network including to PCs, Xbox 360s and home servers. Powering the device is a Intel Atom processor coupled with an NVIDIA Ion graphics chip.
The Reycom REC 7 is due to land in the US in the Spring with pricing to be confirmed.
