According to a recent report Samsung Electronics, the world's largest LCD panel manufacturer has received an order from Apple for $240 million worth of displays for the upcoming iPad tablet.
Samsung is expected to start making the 3 million 9.7-inch IPS LCD screens for Apple soon in order to ensure a sufficient supply for the summer and the back-to-school season. For starters though, the iPad, which will begin shipping in the US on April 3rd, will feature a panel made by either LG Display, the second-largest LCD company, or Chimei Innolux.
Beside the iPad order, Samsung, through its Samsung Mobile Display venture, is said to be negotiating intensely with Apple to supply it with LCD panels for the fourth generation iPhone which should be launched this summer.
