Samsung to manufacture 5G Snapdragon 7nm chips

Qualcomm logoQualcomm and Samsung announced in separate press releases that the Korean manufacturer would build the upcoming 5G Snapdragon chipsets. They will be made on the 7nm process technology, a massive step in introducing the extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV).

Compared to the 10 nm FinFET chips, the EUV tech will provide 40% area efficiency, 10% higher performance and up to 35% lower power consumption. The deployment will break the barriers of Moore’s law scaling and will lead the way to single-digit nanometer semiconductor tech generations.

The information comes as a confirmation of a rumor from last Thursday that Qualcomm might launch its newly announced X24 modem on a 7nm Snapdragon SoC in 2019. Nearly 50 manufacturers and carriers already expressed willingness to support the new standard and to push 5G-enabled devices next year.
