Samsung Says Galaxy S8 Red tint is caused by nature of AMOLED displays

Samsung logoSamsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagships are out, but some users have been complaining about a red tint on the Infinity Display. The South Korea smartphone maker did respond to customers and provided a solution.

Several users said that the issue still persisted after adjusting color display settings on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, at which point Samsung announced that it would roll out a software update to fix the red discoloration and provide users with plenty of display settings.

In anticipation of the software update, Samsung recently told a Korean news outlet that the red tint isn’t caused by a hardware defect on the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+. Some have said that perhaps faulty chips in the device caused the malfunction in the graphics processing unit.

Samsung officials were quick to respond and recently said that "due to the nature of Super AMOLED displays, there can be natural differences in color." They added that "users can optimize the color depending on their preferences." The statement was made on the same day when Samsung announced its quarterly operating profit.

While awaiting for the software update to arrive, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ users who experience the red tint on the display can change the screen color temperature by accessing the Settings Menu, Display section, Screen Mode and then Color Balance menu. A future update will also fix WiFi reception issues that other users have been experiencing.

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ have just hit the shelves, after a tough period for the company, as it had to rely on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge during the holiday period and following the Galaxy Note 7 disaster. It’s not surprising that Samsung is reluctant to calling the red discoloration matter an issue, and fortunately, the company seems willing to address the problem and issue a fix this week.
