Samsung introduces DeX Station for desktop experiences with the Galaxy S8

Samsung logoSamsung introduced the new Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones with lots of new features and improved performance, compared to their predecessors. Samsung also launched the new DeX Station accessory, similar to Microsoft’s Continuum.

Samsung’s new DeX Station will be compatible with Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ phones and offer an Android-based desktop-like experience for users to access applications, edit and email documents, browse the web, watch videos and do much more.

The device allows users to compose and reply to messages directly from their smartphone, which is connected to a larger display, keyboard and mouse. It’s the best way to multitask on your smartphone, while enjoying content on a regular-sized monitor.

Samsung worked closely with Microsoft and Adobe to make DeX compatible with Microsoft Offuce and Adobe mobile apps, like Acrobat Reader, Lightroom Mobile, and many more. In addition, users can remotely and securely access virtual desktops with the help of Citrix, VMware and Amazon Web Services.

The DeX Station connects to the Galaxy S8 and an HDMI compatible monitor. It also features two USB 2.0, Ethernet, USB type-C power-in and a cooling fan. Moreover, DeX has Adaptive Fast Charging (AFC) to charge the Galaxy S8 while it’s connected.

With Samsung DeX, enterprise users can also be assured their smartphone and data are protected by the Samsung Knox security platform built into the smartphone. Samsung DeX redefines what a smartphone can do to keep mobile professionals productive,” said Injong Rhee, CTO of the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung has announced that the DeX Station will be offered globally with the Galaxy S8 for the price of $159.99.
