Apple delays AirPods release

Apple logoYou're just going to have to wait a little longer to look ridiculous in Apple's new wireless headphones.

The company on Wednesday said it needs "a little more time" to finish its AirPods before it starts selling them to consumers. Apple previously said the headphones would be available in late October. Many people expected the company to talk about availability during its event Thursday.

"The early response to AirPods has been incredible," Apple told CNET. "We don't believe in shipping a product before it's ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers."

The company declined to say when the AirPods would become available.

Apple unveiled the headphones at its iPhone 7 launch in September. The company's newest phone ditched the traditional headphone jack in favor of a Lightning connector or Bluetooth headphones. The AirPods are slated to cost $159 when they go on sale.
