ASUS intros N61 and N71 media notebooks

ASUS logoASUS on Friday announced it will soon add two notebooks to its multimedia N-series, including the 16-inch N61 and 17.3-inch N71. Among the improvements, ASUS is touting a new SonicMaster amplification system that includes new paper-foam cones for the speakers that are said to improve sound quality. Both the N61 and N71 will be available with Intel's Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad CPUs and with up to 4GB of RAM.

The LED-backlit displays share the same 1366x768 resolution, while graphics choices include NVIDIA's GeForce GT 240M or GT 220M, either of which has 1GB of dedicated memory. Hard drive capacities top out at 500GB, and a Blu-ray drive is standard fare.

While no ship dates or prices have been revealed, the promise of Windows 7 indicates a mid-October release date.
