To coincide with its next-generation Tigris notebook platform launch in September, AMD is expected to announce a new open platform strategy called AMD Vision Technology, say sources at notebook manufacturers. A Wednesday DigiTimes report says the new strategy will label notebooks with one of three levels based on their processor and GPU. These will include AMD Vision Ultimate, AMD Vision Premium and AMD Vision.
AMD's current Better by Design strategy, which labels the platform specifications on notebooks, will be phased out at the same time. AMD has not responded to these rumors. The move is contrary to Intel's recently announced chip rebranding, in which it will gradually move away from Centrino as a name for a general platform.
