There is some sound logic behind its appearance - it's premature, but the reason we're seeing a concept for the iPhone 8 and not iPhone 7 is the fact that Apple has the habit of changing the design language of its smartphones once every two years. That redesign falls exactly on this imaginary iPhone 8, while the next, allegedly iPhone 7, is not expected to feature any major changes in its appearance. This logic falls apart if Apple goes with an iPhone 6s, though, and it might be many more years until the 8th edition arrives, but let's pretend that such complexities won't happen.
