IDC ups PC growth prediction for 2010 to 19.8%

Back in December market intelligence firm IDC predicted that 2010 will see PC shipments go up by 10.3%, but after seeing the results for Q1 and the Q2 trend, it has revised the estimate and now expects the growth to be of a more impressive 19.8%.

According to IDC the recovery of the PC market has been doing better than expected this year thanks to the growth reported in both mature and emerging markets - the latter category 'pitching in' with a shipment increase of 37% in Q1 (compared to Q1 2009).

Overall, IDC expects that this year the desktop PC segment will grow by over 8% to 137.6 million units, while portable PC sales will go up 28.6% and reach 217.2 million units. Looking even further, the PC market is predicted to post shipment growth of 14.4% in 2011 and 12.8% and 2012.
